Ishan is a toddler from Rasingapuram village in the Bodinayakanur Taluk of Theni District. This village has been his world for the one year and 9 months of his life. Born premature, he was diagnosed with a heart problem at 2 and half months. To Ishan’s parents, the news that their first born was born with such a serious disease was earth-shattering.

Ishan’s parents wasted no time and went straight to the Government hospital in their town for treatment. From there, they were referred to the Tertiary Healthcare center. However, it turned out that none of the government hospitals were prepared to handle Ishan’s case and his parents had no option but to seek out private hospitals.

They were informed that it would cost 1 and half lakhs to treat Ishan in a private hopsital, an amount that was far too much for Ishan’s family which was from a humble background. Ishan’s parents were devastated; they felt completely helpless.

Ishan’s family had almost given up hope when they heard about Dr. Gopi Nallaiyan, director of the Little Moppet Heart Foundation. As a last resort, they went to a free medical camp organized by the foundation. And they were glad they did, since they had finally found people who were ready to welcome Ishan and take over his treatment. We are immensely proud to say that Ishan’s operation is scheduled in January 2017.

Ishan and his family finally found the help they were looking for, but there are many more families like this out there. Coming from humble backgrounds, many parents aren’t able to afford the steep treatment costs at private hospitals. This is where the Little Moppet Heart Foundation steps in. We take over the child’s case and do our best to provide the best treatment we can.
